Animal Crossing Switch has been announced for the Nintendo Switch. During the September 13th, 2018 Nintendo Direct, Nintendo provided over 35 minutes of announcements for upcoming Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo Switch titles. While many great games were announced for both platforms, the best announcement was saved for last. Animal Crossing is finally coming to the Nintendo Switch and it will be a new mainline game rather than a spin off.

The first portion of the Animal Crossing announcement included the news that Isabelle has received an invitation to be in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. At first, this news was bitter sweet. Isabelle was so excited to be included in Smash, but it wasn’t the news many Animal Crossing fans were looking for. Luckily, Tom Nook appeared and saved the day with the official announcement of Animal Crossing Switch.

Animal Crossing Switch is a Mainline Game

The last 3 Animal Crossing games we have received have all been spin off titles. Happy Home Designer, amiibo Festival, and Pocket Camp have been alternate takes on the Animal Crossing gameplay. While each game has introduced some great new features (some much less than others), most fans have been begging for a new mainline Animal Crossing title. The official Animal Crossing Twitter has also confirmed that this will be a mainline game.

New Leaf was the last mainline game and it was first released in 2012 in Japan. After almost 6 years of waiting, we can rest assured that the wait is finally coming to a close. For now, Animal Crossing fans can finally breathe and wait for further news on the game in the future. Within the next year we can expect to see a full trailer that shows off some gameplay and possibly a release date.
